Mountain Laurel Biomedical is a medical product research and development company. It primarily designs and tests medical instrumentation for sale or licensure. It also conducts basic and applied research and development in biophysiology and biotechnology and provides consultative services to other companies and institutions.

Mountain Laurel Biomedical partners with local clinicians, the defense industry, and academics to produce solutions to real world medical problems. Product Lines

Surgical Cooling Garment. Eighth stage prototype undergoing IRB approved clinical trials at Hartford Hospital. Novel improvement of NASA technology to keep patients warm and surgeons cool during surgery. Patented design resulting from a partnership with Hartford Hospital and Hamilton-Sundstrand. Present medical market estimates >$100 million in US. May be adaptable to military HAZMAT (MOPP) suits and firefighters.

Stethoscope Enhancement. Signal processing and neural network pattern recognition combined to produce a visual representation along with automatic diagnosis of heart and lung sounds. Third stage prototype under development. Virtual instrument design using National Instruments LabVIEW^ software. Will run on any PC computer with a sound card. Market potential very large (Medical offices, operating rooms, ambulances) with minimal production costs.

Patient Positioning Device. Prevents pressure induced injury to patient skin while allowing simultaneous imaging. Technology adaptable to auto and aircraft seating.

Joseph H. McIsaac, III, MD, MS

An experienced physician and biomedical engineer. His expertise in engineering is complemented by his experience in anesthesiology, general medicine, and knowledge of medical research. Dr. McIsaac specializes in neuro-physiologic monitoring, cardio-vascular mechanics, intra-operative heat transfer, and electromagnetic compatibility. His vision is to utilize technology originally developed for defense and non-medical applications to rapidly produce marketable clinical products.
